What Do Painful And Swollen Vein On The Calves And Fingers Indicate?
twice now i have had a sudden painful swollen vein that enlarges to 2-3 times its size and feels like it is going to explode. First time in the calf and tonight along my finger. It is painful to touch and only lasts for 15-30 minutes. It is not arterial and the rest of the finger is fine. I elevated it and that helped. I did have a PE and was heterozygous for 2 genes of MTHFR. Only other health issue is I am going through menopause. I exercise a lot and am in relatively good health.
Those are varicose veins. Yes, it is as common as fever is in general population. If you have long-standing hours then venous drainage is hampered to the part and the veins swell like that.
You might even have DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis), if you had pulmonary embolism before. For all this, you need to stop standing for hours together, use your limb more to exercise and improve your circulation.
You can also use leg compression stockings which are available in any medical store and use it whole day while working. You can even use pneumatic compressors available.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Archana
