What Do Painful Indentations On The Shin Indicate?

Both my shins have numerous indentations and often -though not every night-both shins hurt enough to keep me awake all night. I am sometimes able to fall asleep after taking ibuprofen but sometimes, like tonight (it s niw 3:40 a.m.), still can t sleep. Any suggestions as to what the cause may be and what I need to do? Thank you.

Hi,

As you have mentioned only the pain and indentation on shin, but no mention of age, workout habits etc is mention. It is difficult to figure out from these symptoms but the pain may be caused by workout or running on a flat footed shoe, second reason may be calcium deficiency.

My immediate suggestion would be to go for a bone density scan and serum calcium level analysis. Intimidate remedies would be to change your shoe while walking or running to a soft soul or silicon sole, eat good healthy food and take calcium and Vit D.

Hope that helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thanks,
Dr. M Zahoor Bhat
