What Do Purple Veins On The Right Side Of The Tongue Indicate?

I went to the dentist and she noticed some purple vains on the right side of my tongue. She referred me to hospital but I will have to wait a few month as she is not concerned. I am a bit worried. Can you please explain what they are and why are they there? Should I get rid of them? Thank you xo
