What Do Pus Cells In Stool Analysis Report Indicate ?
hii my mom (56)do astool analysis and it worried us as there was pus cells(8-10)and RBCs(1-2)HPF ..and there was E.histolytica(++) so is there aserious problem ??and please i want to know normal level of pus cells?please help me........
Entamoeba histolytica is a parasite. It seems that your mother is likely to be having Amoebic dysentry/ Intestinal Amoebiasis. Does your mother have loose stools with blood and mucous, associated with crampy abdominal pain? Any history of recent travel ? In a normal stool report ideally there should be no pus cells or RBCs. However ,we do find 1-2pus cells/hpf even in normal individuals.
Even if she has diarrhoea and it subsided on its own , this parasite can later invade the liver and cause amoebic liver abscess. So , this requires treatment with drugs like metronidazole /tinidazole initially. Probably followed by diloxanide furoate. Kindly visit the physician at the EARLIEST as the doctor can ask a detailed history and can assess your mother's condition more accurately.
Meanwhile follow good personal hygiene. This includes thorough washing of hands with soap and water after using the toilet, and before preparing & eating food. This is applicable to all family members. Entamoeba can spread from person to person by feco- oral route. So , the only way to beat it, is to follow good personal hygiene. Hope this helps :)
Dont worry. Just take her to the doctor and start treatment .
