What Do Rashes On The Face, Chest And Back Indicate?

My niece is a 22 year old young woman who suffers from ADHD, and Bi-Polar disorder. She recently broke out in hives and a red rash all over, her face, chest, and back. She was given some Benadryl and an Epi-pen was used on her in the hospital. It worked, but the symptoms returned the next day. Could these be symptoms of Lupus, or could it just be stress related? She has been under a significant amount of stress as of late.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I don't think this is lupus because lupus has many other clinical features. Maybe she is suffering an allergic reaction, since Benadryl is effective on her. You can see what medications she has changed lately or what other substance she was exposed to. This substance needs to be eliminated.

Take care.
Hope my answer was helpful, if you have any other questions I'll be glad to help you.

Best regards.
