I am a 59 year old healthy female. I ve been keeping my 87 year old mother in law for the past eight months. She has dementia, but walks well , other ADL s good. I m an RN having left my position at the hospital ( loved my job) to be her full- time care giver as this was a promise made to her by my husband of 37 years. However, since moving into this home ( now ours) I have been experiencing recurring slow- healing lesions. Have had professional extermination done. Went to my GP ( my only Dr. ) to show him the lesions. All at different stages of healing . I thought some appeared to be scabies as some smaller bites were primarily located on my wrists , between fingers. He did not think so. Probably secondary staph. So treated with antibiotics. This only helped to lessen infection in some of the sores. I am fastidious with cleaning now. I have occasionally seen a few very , very, tiny mites ( demodex ?) on my mother in laws shoulders . I now use the lint/ pet hair adhesive rollers to clean off furniture/ even our outer clothing. We do not have any indoor pets. She bathes daily and wears new change of clothes as well. I presently have 5 dime-sized bites or lesions on my back, 4 on each of my hands. Generally healing time is about 6-8 weeks. I experience itching and find tiny ( this part is gross sounding- but I am not crazy ) almost maggot shaped things yuck , in the lesions. Very tiny. Have to use at least 40x magnification to visualize. The lesions itch until I finally get the wound cleansed of whatever is going on in there . Ughh ..... I studied micro. and was a vet. Tech before becoming an RN and I ve had many hours with microscope work. I m embarrassed to tell my Dr. about all this again. I live in a small town. I am not obsessive-compulsive and don t pick the lesions. I have a lovely family , a well balanced social life. Non-smoker and non-drinker. But I am so frustrated by these bites. I ve captured, so to speak, specimens of various insects ( most quite small) on clear adhesive tape. We do not have roaches. Just FYI. Did see this weird looking insect in laundry room that resembles the triatamon family ( kissing bug ) . Have a picture of it. Yikes! Chaga s disease in South Eastern United States. I know it s long term with symptoms usually showing up after infection has progressed for usually a few years. I ve thought bed bugs? Exterminator said negative there. Said other little insects I had collected we re just little beetles . Nothing to be concerned about. So what on earth could cause lesions with these horrible though very tiny wormy looking larvae in these lesions? I would gladly see a tropical disease specialist. I don t need a topical steroid only . I just want to find out what this could be. I have specimens on clear adhesive tape that I ve put on slides. I m really getting desperate for an answer. I am not overweight, 5 7 140 lbs and walk about 10 miles a week. I just don t want to waste my time and money on TAC cream and a disingenuous or dismissive Doctor that may not be willing to help me find out what this condition may be and help steer me toward effective treatment/cure. I would hope to be able to consult with Tropical Disease Specialist or Physician familiar with this type of infectious issue. Sincerely, M.Jones
