What Do Red, Painful, Pus Filled Boils Peeling Off In Layers On Back Of Head Mean?
I had some form of staph about 3 years ago on my lower cheek. Never technically diagnosed, but I went to the hospital for a test and came home with it. Since I have been getting what seems to be smaller versions of boils (but big enough to be embarrassing) on my face and especially behind my ears. They will initially pop with a very small amount of puss and almost clotted blood, then the just grow and become red and painful, clear liquid will come out of them but most of them last for months. They are not as aggressive as the staph. They drain I also get fleshy painful bumps on the back of my head they crust over and then peel off in layers and if I try to squeeze them the entire back of my head will hurt. These also last 4-8 months.
The possible diagnosis of the condition based on the description of the lesions is furunculosis which is an infection of the hair follicle. It can be treated with topical antibacterial creams like mupirocin. You must avoid pricking or fiddling with them. A short course of oral antibiotic like amoxycillin may be required. Consult your dermatologist regarding the above mentioned therapy. Regards
