Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Do Red Patches On The Face And Swollen Cheek Indicate?
I have red patches on my face. My right eye/cheek is swollen. I was taking meds for my arthritis. Could this be a reaction. I have stopped the meds for two weeks now, but the red spots although not as bad, are still here. It itches. Meloxicam and omeprazole are the meds that I took for a week and half before I got the itchy spots.
I can understand your concern. The reaction you are describing can be an allergic reaction to the medicines that did not suit you or the swelling and redness on only right side may be due to an oral infection that has spread to the eyes and cheek making them swollen. However, in the absence of pain and presence of itching, itching reaction is more likely the possibility.
I would advise you to start with the antihistamines to control the allergic reaction. the reaction can be due to medicines or some other substance that you are not aware of. You can take Loratidine 10 mg (Lorfast) once a day for about 5-7 days. If the reaction does not come under control, you should consult a dentist for examination of the oral cavity for presence of tooth infection.
In addition, if the dentist denies presence of infection in the oral cavity, you should consult a dermatologist as you might need steroids to control the reaction.
I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you feel better soon.
Best, Dr. Viraj Shah
