Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I noticed that I have large red patches on my upper inner thighs that don`t bother me but weren t there last week. I am over 65 y/o male w/ type 2 diabetes and have been taking all of the meds and insulin to treat. I also take liquid milk thistle to detoxify my liver and vitamin D3 1000mg. I weigh 260 lbs. however I`ve never seen the red patches before especially since it is not hot and humid weather.
It is possible that the patches are due to inflammation of the skin. Inflammation of the body folds is called intertrigo. It is treated by separation of the folds by cotton or linen material, use of barrier creams such as zinc based creams and in some cases, treatment of an infection.
Bacterial or fungal infection can occur. Topical treatment can be tried initially. If there is no improvement, then you may need to see your doctor for assessment.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Michelle Gibson James
