Hi, I m a 62 year old 6 2 156 lb. white male in good health on no medications struggling only with pre-diabetes with a current A1c of 5.8. I ve been getting on again off again welts or reddened spots on my lower neck laterally and just below my Adam s apple region for about three weeks. I m allergic to cats and was reacting days ago when briefly visiting my sister-in-law in NC - I treated only with otc eye drops. I don t see the Bulls-eye characteristic of a tick bite but have done some hiking in NC and three or four weeks ago also in Sonoma county, CA. I live in Atlanta, GA. Thank you for your thoughts. General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
The red spots you have on your neck seem to be allergic in nature. Allergy to clothes, a chain you are wearing around the neck, maybe cosmetics used or even excessive sweating/exposure to heat causing itching & skin damage.
Dusting talcum powder, repeated washing with cold water /steroid skin ointment would help. Sweating followed by fungal infection can be the cause too.
Neosporin fungal dusting powder (over the counter)would relieve. In case of no relief consult a skin specialist for oral medication.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
