What Do Redness And Pain In The Shin And Ankles Indicate?

Hi, I have a deep redness covering my left lower shin and ankle. It is not swollen but aches like crazy. I have propped it up on a pillow when sitting down and there is no difference. When taking it off the pillow to stand, there is excruciating pain. After about a minute I am able to put weight on my left leg and walk. The more I walk the less pain I have. I have not had any injury on this leg for about three years. There does not appear to be any insect bites.
