Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was feeling so achy and fatigued since early Spring and when conditions worsened I saw my Dr who performed a series of test on me. My blood work showed that I had an under active thyroid. I was prescribed 25MCG of Levothyroxine and have been on it for almost 3 weeks. However, I see no improvement. I am a letter carrier and I have to push myself to move even though my body wants to stay still. I don t know what to do and am scared. I feel like there is something else going on. I went back to my doctor and she is referring me to a neurosurgeon. I suffer from anxiety so my mind is thinking the worse case scenarios.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advise.
Anxiety can be a possible cause of fatigue and body aches as well but first other medical causes should be ruled out. The thyroid function might take a few more weeks before it gets to normal. You will need to repeat TSH test in 3 weeks (6 weeks from starting treatment) and adjust dose of Levothyroxine accordingly. Most of the patients need much higher doses of Levothyroxine, so very likely you will need an increase of the dose. Please make sure you follow the instructions of the doctor and do regular checks and make sure you are having the right dose of Levothyroxine.
If your TSH reaches the normal values (0.5-5) and you still have the symptoms than there is another cause of your symptoms and further tests should be done.
Hope I have answered your query.
