Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had several cryosurgeries for a lesion originally the size of a nickel on my scalp. The lesion was tested after the first cryosurgery and determined to be actinic keratosis. After each cryosurgery a large scab has formed but has not healed on its own. In each case it was cut off ( I believe its called cutterage), and a reasonable looking skin coverage has formed with a few very small lesions. In each case then another cryosurgery was performed and the process would repeat.. Is this at all typical? Should another procedure be attempted?
hi sir/mam,i appreciate your patience and compliance for treatment of actinic keratitis, which has got a great potential to convert into malignancy.the scarring and scabs you experience are adverse effects of cryosurgery.but you could have opted an alternative mode of treatment after two cryosurgeries instead of curettage every time.of course cryo is the standard option, still some other like PHOTODYNAMIC THERAPY are very effective and have fewer side effects like edema,erythema/reddening,scaling,hypo or hyperpigmentation.but is well tolerated with good cosmetic results.you can try it.hope my suggestion would help you.any other issues, kindly let me know.thank you.take care.bye.
