What Do Small, Tender And Purple Growth Behind The Ear Indicate?

My 18 year old niece has a small purple growth behind her ear. It is soft and tender, oblong, does not itch and is half the size of her ear lobe, right next to the ear lobe. Doesn t resemble a pimple at all, the skin over it is smooth and all the same color, no marked redness. Any idea what it might be?
