What Do Spots On The Liver In A PET Scan Report Indicate?
My dad is 84. He had a melanoma in his eye treated with radiation. The cancer returned to his pancreas last year and he had half of it removed to remove the tumor. His latest PET scan showed 2 spots on his liver. What questions should we ask the doctor?
Imaging studies of the liver like ultrasound, CT and MRI scans, allow doctors to visualize the structure and texture of the organ. Liver tissue normally has a uniform appearance on imaging scans. A spot on the liver indicates a solid area that appears different from the majority of the liver tissue. Infections, inflammatory reactions and various types of noncancerous and cancerous tumors can appear as spots on the liver.
Such spots needs to be correlated clinically and additional tests may be needed to identify the underlying cause of a spot seen on a liver imaging.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
