What Do Spotting After Discontinuing Birth Control Pills Indicate?

I just stopped my new pack of birth control last week. I was never consistent before I just stopped. I was on my first row of pills, I was sexually active last week and the other night.. today I am spotting. Is this plantation spotting or am I about to start?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. Both of these options are quite possible. Hormones have a different impact on every woman After stopping with birth control pills, every woman should consider herself fertile and should use other forms of protection. It is not unusual for a woman to miss a period or two after stopping pills.

On the other hand, you could have ovulated and become pregnant in the first cycle after stopping birth control pills. I think it would be best you did some pregnancy test it will make it clear if you are pregnant.

Hope this was useful do let me know if you have any more questions.

Regards,
Dr. Akash Kumar
