Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

As per your query you have symptoms of sudden onset of swelling on face that too on left side that is because of impingement of facial nerve due to any cause. Possible reason is periapical abscess in your oral cavity which is putting pressure on jaw and in turn on facial nerve. Another possible reason is salivary gland duct obstruction in that area which causes all the secretions accumulation there and it leads to swelling.

I would suggest you to visit dentist once and go to ENT speacialist for proper examination. If its dental related, Root canal treatment of involved tooth and cleaning in that area is the treatment option. If its salivary gland involvement then surgeon will decide how to clear obstruction. Laser therapy, cryotheray are treatment options for salivary stone removal.

Do warm saline gargles. Apply cold compression's on the jaw area. Take antibiotic such as Diclofenac and Ibuprofen to reduce infection in that area.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
