What Do Swelling And A Painful Ulcer In The Inner Lip Indicate?
Hi, my husband has been getting little bite type things on his body when he's working out side so we just kind blew it off maybe sand fleas. Well a little bit ago his mouth started hurting; he figured he'd just brush his teeth. After he was done he said that he could feel a little bump on inside of lip ( like pimple size). But when he rinsed out his mouth he said he could feel a little gush so he spit then he looked at the inside of his lip and all of a sudden there's a huge sore type thing. like the size of a nickel ( and growing). His whole lip is swollen bad just within an hr. As I'm looking I notice all of a sudden his gums are like bruised????????
Well, it looks like an allergic reaction to the toothpaste that he is using causing ulceration, inflammation inside mouth along with bruised gums..
At times changing toothpaste to other common brands does not help as it will also contain some common ingredient that can also cause allergic reaction like SLS or Sodium Lauryl Sulphate.
He should stop using the regular toothpaste and consult an Oral Physician and get prescribed with a hypo-allergic toothpaste that will not cause the symptoms..
For now he can apply Lidocaine gel over the sore to relieve pain.. Gargle with 1:1 solution of milk of magnesia and benadryl.. Do cool compresses or cold water rinses.. Avoid spicy and irritant foods.. He can also take anti allergics like Levocetrizine..
