What Do Swelling And Inflammation In The Feet Indicate?

Good Evening! My feet & ankles have been very swollen the past 3-4 days...mostly the left foot. I had a bad contusion on my right knee 6 months ago from a car accident, so my right foot & Ankle still get a bit inflamed from time to time, but not the left foot. I ve tried IBU s, keeping my feet elevated above my heart line for hours today and they swell more every day. What could this be from? My left foot is uncomfortably painful. Any ideas I may try to avoid going into urgent care?

Hello,

You had a bad contusion after a car accident. Coming to your main complaint of swelling (edema) and inflammation of legs, there are many causes of edema. Edema is retention of fluid in the leg tissues. Mostly edema occurs in renal diseases. So it is better to go for
1. Renal function tests (serum creatinine, Bl. urea, electrolytes etcetera)
2. Complete blood test
3. X-ray legs
If nothing is wrong in the investigation, follow the below mentioned:
1. Take a short walk every hour.
2. Drink eight to ten glasses of water daily.
3. Limit your salt intake which you were doing.
4. Elevate your legs and feet at night.
5. Use anti steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for pain.
No need to worry, we were on half way to get the symptoms relieved. Make the remaining thing, you will get completely relieved.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
