What Do Swelling And Itchiness In The Lips Indicate?

hello: My lips swell, itch, and eventually peel maybe once every year or 2 years. I was diagnosed by an allergist as having an autoimmune disorder and I thought the name of the disorder sounded something like peroxidase, but that doesn t seem to match my symptoms. The treatment was prednisone for 5 days. Does anyone know the name of the disorder? I think it may have had something to do with the thyroid gland? Thank you!!!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to an allergic reaction. I see through the query that you are already taking the right medication to treat the symptoms. The autoimmune disease that you might have is the presence of antibodies against thyroid peroxidase (TPO antibodies). You should consult an endocrinologist about the examinations and treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
