What Do Swelling And Weakness In The Feet Indicate?

I am on 300mg Gabapentin bid for the past 5 weeks. I have swelling in my feet, tiredness, weakness, and my balance is shaky. For the first time, I have been unable to come up with a word to express myself. I want to stop taking this medication. How long will it take to titrate off this med? I will be speaking to my doctor this week concerning this. Just want a second opinion. Thank you.

Do you have Diabetes? The swelling, weakness and imbalance you are experiencing is possibly due to neuropathy of the lower limbs. The most common cause of neuropathy is Diabetes. Gabapentin is a medication which will help relieve the neuropathic symptoms. The later generation of the medication is Pregabalin, which is supposed to have lesser side effects. Relief of neuropathic symptoms will vary on the degree of neuropathy you have. If mild, you would feel fine in 4 to 6n weeks. If severe, then you may have to take the medication for a few months. Another treatment modality for neuropathy is Anodyne Therapy. Each sitting is usually for 40 minutes, and usually 12 to 14 sittings are required. This gives faster relief than medication.
