My son had a routine CBC a few weeks ago. His neutrophils are high at 72 and his lymphs are low at 18. His absolute lymphs are also low at 1.2. His hemoglobin is slightly elevated at 13.7 and hemoglobin is high at 39.5. I am concerned. He has had cold symptoms for the last few weeks.
Hello, I'll tell you what I can make out of the rather little information that you provided. The age of your son is a crucial bit of information because children have different normal ranges than adults. From the numbers you provided I've calculated that he had about 6500/μL white blood cells. His neutrophils (almost 4500/μL) are normal. He has a mild lymphopenia which means a slight decrease in lymphocytes. His hemoglobin and hematocrit levels are within the normal range and should not concern you unless they were very different in previous tests. Mild lymphopenia may accompany viral illnesses of the respiratory tract. This is expected and has no serious consequences. If his general condition is improving this is not alarming. Otherwise he needs at least a complete physical examination. I hope he gets better! Kind Regards!
