Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Do The HDL Level Of 30 And LDL Of 160 Indicate?
A 50-year-old man with no apparent health problems who is moderately active and normal weight has the following blood values: high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol = 30 mg/dL; low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol = 160 mg/dL; and triglycerides = 300 mg/dL.
Hi Thanks for the query. I appreciate your concern for this 50 yrs old gentleman.
The"bad cholesterol" or LDL Cholesterol level is HIGH. High risk of developing heart disease due to deposition of the cholesterol in the blood vessels of the heart.
The LDL Cholesterol has to be reduced by using STATIN drugs.
The serum Triglyceride level is also HIGH. This fat is also a risk factor for various diseases like pancreatitis, etc. Its level also needs to be reduced by using FIBRATES drugs.
The "Good Cholesterol" HDL Cholesterol level is LOW. It has got a protective effect in the sense it reduces the blood cholesterol level and hence reduces the risk for heart disease. Its level can be increased by daily exercise.
Hope these suggestions could be of great help in seeking the treatment from your doctor.
A feed back is appreciated.
