What Do The X-ray And MRI Reports Of A 53-year-old Female Indicate?
Hi, I have had xrays and MRI scans on my knees and been diagnosed with a slight tear of meniscus on each knee and early stages of arthritis. I am female, 53, a little overweight and a match badminton player. My left knee is better in the mornings and worsens during the day and can be very painful and sometimes I struggle to walk and develop interesting ways to get down stairs or inclines. I haven t played badminton since March and cycle 2/3 times a week. I have had a number of problems with achilles or calf muscles. I have also suffered with tennis elbow for many years and cycle regularly where my wrist and thumb joints can give me problems. My own diagnosis (after physio on a number of such issues) led me to think that my knees need sorting to stop these other problems and I have had the consultation and MRI scans privately. (My GP tested for artritis (neg) and x-rays and advised wear and tear - not bad enough for action maybe try physio ....). I want to walk the North York moors again and play competitive badminton. The private consultant is offering to do surgery - do you think that this will solve the problem? Is there another way?

What Do The X-ray And MRI Reports Of A 53-year-old Female Indicate?
Hello, Since, knee meniscus does not have blood supply so tears in meniscus do not heal spontaneously. Tears in meniscus need surgery for healing. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Shailja Puri , Pathologist and Microbiologist
