What Do The Following MRI Findings Indicate?

Respected Doctor I m from India. My wife aged 32yrs was suffering from back pain. When I consulted orthopedic surgeon, he suggested for MRI and below are the findings from MRI scan Mild Anterolisthesis of LS over S1 vertebra with bilateral spondylolysis of LS vertebra Posterior pseudobulge of LS-S1 disc Mild facetal arthroparhy at LS-S1 level Doctor advised for complete bed rest for 15days and prescribed few medicines. He suggested to wear LS frame and suggested few exercises I hope the treatment suggested is correct. Will my wife will be 100% fine. How long will it take for full recovery. After recovery can she do forward bending or lift heavy items. What major precautions should be taken. Can I have your expert opinion Regards Prashant

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

So far the MRI result explains why your wife is most probably suffering from severe back pain and other symptoms. However, these damages can be managed. I don’t want to interfere with the therapeutic approach of the colleagues who are treating her, but please keep one thing in mind: if somebody is suffering from a problem with his/her spine, the most important thing are a well trained muscles all along the entire backside of the upper-body.

Therefore, bed rest might be necessary for a short while, but it is crucial that your wife will get very good physiotherapy for at least a year. There she can learn all the exercises and methods that she needs to practice for the rest of her life to keep all the muscles in shape which she needs to support the spine. Because in her case the muscles will have to take over some of the functions of the spine itself. So physiotherapy is the key to her well-being despite her spine condition.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
