36 Y/O male. Recent lab results: AST 62, ALT 134. Slight pain left between hip bone and bottom of rib cage. History of heavy drinking, until 12 months ago, since then very minimal. AST/ALT 1 year ago = AST 30, ALT 72. Have appointment with GI in 4 weeks.
I see you are concerned about elevated AST and ALT levels. These levels are frequently elevated due to alcohol use. I strongly urge that you completely stop using alcohol. This could be early signs of liver damage and cirrhosis of the liver.
Another frequent cause of elevated AST and ALT is fatty infiltrate of the liver. This is very common in the US where we eat too many high fatty foods. We are also frequently obese and the extra fat is being deposited into the liver. If you are overweight I recommend regular exercise program and weight reduction with a low fat diet.
Please keep you appointment with the GI doctor but in the mean time please apply my recommendations.
