Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my dad is 74 years old and had some test ran and I am trying to figure out what it means: glucose level is 225 - AST (SGOT) level is 115 - ALT (SGPT) level is 129 - Triglycerides level is 561 - HDL is 31 - Non-HDL Cholesterol is 163 - VLDL is 112. would you be able to tell me what all those levels mean?
The normal ranges may vary slightly from one lab to the next.
The normal range for AST is 10 to 40 for females, ALT is 7 to 56. High levels may be due to different causes such as : (1) infection of the liver (2)alcohol use (3)non alcoholic fatty liver disease- where diet and lack of activity cause fat build up in the liver (4)side effect of medication eg statins

What Do The Following Test Results Suggest?
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic The normal ranges may vary slightly from one lab to the next. The normal range for AST is 10 to 40 for females, ALT is 7 to 56. High levels may be due to different causes such as : (1) infection of the liver (2)alcohol use (3)non alcoholic fatty liver disease- where diet and lack of activity cause fat build up in the liver (4)side effect of medication eg statins His triglyceride is also above the normal range and means that he is at risk for heart disease. Very high triglycerides also increase the risk for pancreatitis as well. Non HDL levels should be 30 or less above the goal for LDL. I hope this helps
