General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
I want to know whether you are diagnosed case or the titre you have given is of screening test.
RPR AND VDRL ARE used for screening or for quantitation of the serum antibody.
Titre reflects disease activity rising during the evolution of early syphilis and often exceeding 1:32 in secondary syphilis.
Adequate response to treatment is indicated by persistent fall by two dilutions or more after treatment.
Titers less than 1:8 may be reactive and in such cases autoimmune conditions and injection drug use should be ruled out.
