Hi
Thanks for posting your query on HCM.
I appreciate your concern for the raised liver enzymes.
I have gone through the lab results given in your query.
Where as
Alkaline phosphatase & AST levels are within normal range, ALT is slightly raised.
Well, absolutely there is a FOUR FOLD rise in the level of GGT suggestive of liver disease, it is elevated in liver disease, alcoholic
cirrhosis or individuals who are heavy drinkers.
It may also increase in
gall bladder disease, obesity,
diabetes,
hypertension, and
hypertriglyceridemia.
In your case heavy alcohol consumption over the years over the year appears to be responsible for raised GGT.
Heavy alcohol consumption is associated with
fatty liver, cirrhosis of the liver and its complications, and also involvement of other organs including the testes.
It is appreciated that you have stopped taking alcohol, well take healthy diet in the form of fruits, vegetables, avoid fatty fast junk foods.
It will take 4-8 weeks for the GGT to return to normal level after complete abstinence from alcohol.
You must avoid consuming all forms of alcohol like beer, cough syrups (which also contain some alcohol) in order to have a healthy liver.
Hope these suggestions could be of great help in living a healthy life without alcohol.
A feed back is appreciated.
