Hello and welcome to HCM,
The interpretation of the CT of para-nasal
sinuses is as follows:
There are various pairs and groups of para-nasal sinuses - frontal sinus, maxillary sinus,
sphenoid sinus and
ethmoid sinus.
The CT is showing opacification of ethmoid sinus and maxillary sinus.
In health, all sinuses are clear and transparent.
Opacification is due to accumulation of fluid or pus which is seen in infections.
In response to infection or inflammation, the mucosa of maxillary sinus, left frontal sinus, sphenoid sinus is thickened.
There is deviation of
nasal septum also and the nasal mucosa is thickened on the side opposite to the side of deviation.
The ear structures and
nasolacrimal duct are normal.
These findings suggest that almost all para-nasal sinuses are infected or inflamed.
The probable cause of infected and inflamed para-nasal sinuses is the deviated nasal septum.
Thanks and take care
