Hi & Welcome.
It's suggestive of
Cholestasis of
pregnancy.
It is a condition in which the normal flow of bile ( a digestive fluid) in the
gallbladder is affected by the high amounts of pregnancy hormones.
It is more common in the last trimester of pregnancy when hormones are at their peak, but it usually goes away within a few days after delivery.
For mothers, it may temporarily affect the way the body absorbs fat-soluble vitamins, but this rarely impacts overall nutrition. Itching usually resolves within a few days of delivery, & subsequent liver problems are uncommon.
However, it increases the risk of the baby being born too early (preterm birth). It also increases the risk of meconium (the secretions that accumulates in the baby's intestines) getting into the
amniotic fluid that surrounds the baby. If a baby inhales meconium during delivery, he or she may have trouble breathing. There's also a risk of
fetal death late in pregnancy. Because of the potentially severe complications, your doctor may consider inducing labor around the 37th week of pregnancy.
The itching can be controlled by corticosteroid ointment or medication such as
Ursodeoxycholic acid which decreases the concentration of bile acids.
Mother can also get benefit from the
cold baths and ice water which slow down the flow of blood in the body by decreasing the temperature
Vitamin K supplements administered to the mother before delivery & again once the baby is born to prevent intracranial bleeding.
Hope I could answer your query.
Best wishes.
