Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Do These MRI Test Result For Shoulder Muscles Indicate?
There is a full thickness to near full thickness tear involving the anterior insertional fibers of the supraspinatus with the tear measuring up to nearly 1 cm in the sagittal plane. This involves at least 90 % of the tendon thickness. There is minimal retraction of fibers in the coronal plane which measures on the order of approximately 3 to4 mm though. This is the results of my mri I got today. I have been doing therapy for 5 weeks with no positive results. Will I need surgery? How long is therapy after?

HI..... Thank you for asking HCM. Supraspinatus is a muscle which connects shoulder blade with Humerus bone from top. It is responsible for first 15 degree of upper limb elevation. It gets attched to Humerus as a tendon. Saggital plane: imagine an arrow going from front to back. this is the saggital plane. Your report says there is a 1cm tear near attachment of Supraspinatus to humerus. Coronal plane: imagine an arrow going from side to side. this will be the coronal plane. Muscle inaction are under tension. When there is a tear they tend to recoil and retract. Since your tear involves 90% of tendon thickness, it could be problomatic with daily routine activity. So you might need a surgery. Kindly consult your Syrgeon for further follow up. Hope i have cleared your query. Take care. Bye.
