What Do These SGOT And SGPT Level In Blood Indicate?
Hello!! My name is Randy, I recently had blood work done, my AST (SGOT) was 46 and my ALT (SGPT) was 63, is this something to worry about? The day before I had the blood work done, I did go to a function and drank alcohol. With that make those numbers be high? Thank you, Randy
In absence of other lab tests, it is difficult to comment on the isolated raised liver enzymes such as SGOT and SGPT, because their level can be increased in patients suffering from liver, gall bladder, heart or kidney diseases.
Besides another most important cause is alcohol consumption. Even a small amount of alcohol or alcohol containing beverages no matter what type you consume can cause liver injury resulting in high levels of SGOT and SGPT along with raised GGT and Alkaline phosphatase enzymes.
Hope this answers your query.
