What Do These TSH Levels Indicate?

Hello, Had completion thyroidectomy in Mar 1995, with I131 ablation 3 months later. Was told that my TSH needed to stay at near undetectable levels because a part of my gland, which wrapped around my jugular, could not be removed. In the last 20+ years Dr s did not want to listen to USAF/V.A. guidelines, and constantly tried to lower 200mcg dosage. Now, even with that dosage (200mcg), my TSH is now 2.75 which is considered normal....It s not supposed to be normal, but at near undetectable levels! My question is; Am I overreacting, or should I be concerned.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

How long should TSH be suppressed depends on the diagnosis, the stage of the disease and thyroglobulin level during follow up. Usually we recommend it for 5 years but it depends on the above mentioned factors.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
