What Do These Cholesterol Level Indicate After Zetia Withdrawal?

Last year my BP was 112/84. Cholesterol was in the 150 s, HDL was around 37. At the time I was taking Pravastatin and Zetia. I went off Zetia and my cholesterol went to 196, HDL is 36 and LDL is 137. My new doctor says I have nothing to worry about. I disagree. In my last office visit in March my BP was 140/90 and has remained high since I ve started monitoring it recently. Do you think it is related to an increase in my Cholesterol?

Hello,

Following are my observations:
Your total cholesterol is fine, but LDL is too high
Now a days, for preventing heart related issues LDL is recommended to be maintained It appears stopping of lipid lowering drug Zetia was not a good decision.

Increase in BP to 140/90 mm Hg is unlikely to be a direct consequence of stopping the drug, but increase in LDL is definitely because of that. Since there is no mention of your weight, height, (BMI), extent of daily physical activity and dietary pattern, it is difficult comment any further as all these aspects are interlinked. So please give a closer look at all these aspects as well as salt intake to control BP and please do start taking the lipid lowering drug again.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
