General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, beta hcg is a hormone released in blood when pregnancy occurs. It has different values in different weeks of pregnancy.
Its value goes on increasing as your pregnancy forwards.
As you can see the reference values for non pregnant female is 0 -5.
Your test result is 16 which fits in 3 week pregnancy category.
Hence he told you that you are pregnant.
If you want to be double sure of your pregnancy you can repeat the same test in next week and see whether the values is higher than 16 or not. If its higher than 16 then you are sure about your pregnancy.
I hope i have helped your query.
Thank you
