Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi Dr Charles! I have have acute abdo pain - mostly in top right quadrant. The findings of my ultrasound are as follows: the liver is of normal size and contour, but demonstrates generalised increase in echotexture indicating fatty infiltration. Focal sparing of this seen adjacent to the gallbladder bed. A 6 x 5 x 2 ,, echogenic lesion seen within segment 8 wth shadowing consitent with calcification and a granuloma. No other focul abnormality. Normal vascularity. No biliary dilation.
Hello and welcome to HCM, The interpretation of ultrasound abdomen is as follows: The liver shows fatty infiltration or accumulation of fat is liver cells. Fatty infiltration is seen in conditions like excessive alcohol consumption, diabetes mellitus, mal-absorption, starvation, malnutrition, fasting etc. If you have any of the above mentioned risk factors you need to control that condition to reverse the fatty change. Fatty change of liver is a reversible change if the causative agent is removed. Calcification and a granuloma are detected in segment 8 of liver. Calcification and granuloma are commonly seen in tuberculosis. Other causes include sarcoidosis, drug reaction etc. I suggest you to consult your doctor for further management of calcification and granuloma.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
