What Do Tingling And Prickly Sensation In The Hands Indicate?
We removed a mushy eaten pumpkin from outside and some of the pumpkin got on an open cut on my right hand when washing my hand it stung. I got concerned that the pumpkin could have been eaten by a rabid animal and washed and put hydrogen peroxide on it. Is it possible for me to get rabies from this? I m on Ceftin for lyme disease and wondering if the symptoms i m having are a reaction from the lyme (tingling and prickly sensations on that hand and arm. the other hand too and arm at times. My Dr. says it can t be but what if the rabid saliva was on the wet pumpkin. Could it live outdoors? I m so worried. Can you help?
The chance of rabid animal having virus very low, also the virus live outside less than one day without sun exposure or die with one and half an hour after sun exposure so.
When the virus was spread in a thin layer onto surfaces like glass, metal or leaves, the longest survival was 144 hours at 5 degrees C (that’s ~ 41F).
At 20C (68F), the virus was infective for 24h on glass and leaves and 48h on metal. At 30C (86F), the virus didn’t last long, being inactivated within 1.5h with exposure to sunlight and 20h without sunlight.
Even washing the wound is sufficiently alright.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
