Hi my son is 17 and has developed a shaking in the hands. He is in band an plays a trombone. My question is is excessive sweating and shaking of the hands a sign of Parkinson s. Both my dad and his parents and aunt had it so bad that they couldn t hardly hold a cup without it spilling.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

First of all no need to worry for parkinsonism in him because he is too young today have parkinsonism. Possibility of nervous tremors and sweating is more likely. But better to consult neurologist and get done clinical examination and MRI brain. If this is normal then no need to worry for any brain pathology. Consult psychiatrist for nervous tremors. He will need counselling sessions. Try to identify stressor in his life and start working on its solution. He may need Anxiolytic drugs (Propranolol and Flunarizine combination) too. Don't worry, he will be alright.

Hope I have answered your query.
