Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband has jerks or almost like tremors in legs often in abdomen which make him jump in bed At first it was only when going to bed and resting his body, now it happens at any time in the day when he is sitting or resting. As a result he is not getting any sleep. My brother had Parkinson s and my husband does not shake constantly like that. Can you suggest what might be going on. He has had 3 heart attacks in the past and suffers with COPD as well.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Having read your message, I am quite convinced that your husband had been having myoclonus. It does not sound like Parkinsonism- as you said, it is not constant like Parkinsonism should have. Now he will actually need to be examined before the confirmation can be made. Alternatively, you could probably load the video of this movement so that we can see and make out what he has. Once the diagnosis of movement is confirmed, he will need to undergo imaging like MRI Brain and Spine. And thereafter the evaluation and treatment of the cause of this probable myoclonus can be done. In the meantime, you can meet your practitioner for a prescription of Levetiracetam and a referral to a neurologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
