My 4.5 year old has dry skin on his knees. The dry skin is thick and white, no redness though, so it does not look like psoriasis. What is can be? How to tell if it is simply dry skin due to dry air or it is a symptom of a more serious health problem? Thank you
Hello, Welcome to healthcare magic. from your history and description, the possibilities I can think of in your child are Phrynoderma, Keratosis pilaris, psoriasis and localised type of Pityriasis rubra pilaris. They all could cause localized thickening of skin on elbows and knees. Please consult a good dermatologist who can look at the lesion, look for associated features and can come to a conclusive diagnosis. Hope this helps you. Take care.
