What Do You Suggest For The Pain In My Sprained Middle Finger After Being Taped?

I think i sprained my middle index finger on the right hand it is taped to my index finger now and feels better . This injry happened a little over a week ago. There is a little pain but only when i move it? My doctor said to give it a few more days and if not better by next monday it probably may need an xray. Your thoughts??
