These changes are commonly seen on an MRI, related to aging and hypertension commonly. Many patients are asymptomatic with these changes, while some have minor symptoms. The mucous retention cysts in the sinuses occur due to blockage of the ducts draining the sinus leading to buildup of secretions and cyst formation. Hyeprtrophied turbinates are increased size of the tiny bones along the wall of the nose. Both signal to a chronic process of nasal allergies/ sinusitis - causing nasal obstruction.
