What Does the following Blood Test Result Mean?

My daughter just had blood work done. She is a 19 year old, away at college. The blood work came back abnormal with high red cell count, high platelet count and small platelet size. What could the problem be? She is away filming a documentary for school and won t be able to see a doctor for 3 weeks.

Hi welcome to the health care magic

I need to know clinical complaint if present for giving proper comment on this

Platelet count can be high as a result of reactive thrombocytosis by release of IL 6 in various condition like anemia, bleeding, infection, post surgery etc... So clinical correlation is necessary

I need to know her hb level... If anemia present, low HB than thalassemia minor can be ruled out by hb electrophoresis investigation

Sometime secondary polycythemia from dehydration or respiratory chronic illness can lead high rbc mass

Provide report and any clinical complaint if present for giving more comment

Hope this will help you

Take care
