Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
here is the result of a test: Spiral CT scan of kidneys without contrast, with coronal reconstruction Stones are evident in the middle and lower calyxes of the left kidney combined with adjacent parenchyma in the local atrophy. Diameter of the largest of all the stones is 31 mm and the maximum measured density of the stones are HU=1265. No stones were observed in the right kidney and its urinary tracts. spleen is slightly enlarged however it bears normal density. Liver, pancreas, adrenal glands have normal size and density. Paraaortic lymph nodes were normal and no Lymphadenopathy was observed. no fluid was observed in the abdominal cavity. some doctors have recommended pcm and or removal of the kidney, which sounds ridiculous to me!!! my brother is only 44 yrs old.
Hello dear. Since the stone is 31mm its a huge size. Small stones can be removed with drinking plenty of water, large amount of IV fluids etc. But large stone needs removal through surgery. You can talk to your doctor about another method where stone is crushed through laser treatment. This procedure is known as ESWL (Extra corporeal shock wave lithotripsy). this doesnot require surgery but the procedure is bit costly.
Hope i have answered your question. Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions. I ll be glad to help you. All the best With warm regards Dr Sanjay Kini
