What Does this abdominal CT Scan Test Result Mean?
hi i recently had a CT scan done of the abdomen area. One finding says of the pancreas: homogeneous in contour. No ductal dialation. No peripancreatic fluid collection. also, the gallbladder is nondistended. hyperdense appearance to the gallbladder lumen may be related to sludge. should I be concerned about either reading? what does it mean in the hyperdense appearance to the gallbladder lumen may be related to sludge? thank you! General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
hi, Thanks for the query. I understand your concern. All of the findings in your CT scan except for the gall bladder lumen being hyper-dense due to sludge. Sludge is thickened form of bile ( which is normally stored in gall bladder. sometimes it is retained in gall bladder to form sludge )which is retained in gall bladder instead of being delivered in intestines to digest certain food ingredients. It gets thickened by certain salts . Some times such sludge comes & goes automatically.. & is not considered significant ... but some times it is not drained out & then some rock like stones are formed from them , theses are Bile stones. Bile stones give symptoms & can be diagnosed by USG In your case, such sludge is found in gallbladder.. which need not form stones .. In short, such sludge is not a point of concern. Only thing is to be aware of rare possibility & follow ideal life style & diet to prevent such problem in future. Thanks
