What Does Bilirubin Level From LFT Test Indicate?

I m suffering from Jaundice.. I went for Completed Level Functional Test.Every thing is normal but Bilirubin is showing 2.8 mg/dl as reference range is 0.1 to 1.2. When I asked Gastroenterology doctor, he said that It is not a problem, Bilirubin can vary up to 4 mg/dl, not to worry. Keep normal diet . Please suggest whether this give any problem or any medication required.

Hi.

A bilirubin level that is higher than normal needs to be investigated. There are many reasons why it can be raised but these can be classified into whether the direct or indirect bilirubin is raised.

Based on this, we can decide if you have a blood disorder, a liver disease or a after the liver disease where there is obstruction of the liver.

To check this, you can also check the liver enzymes. getting an ultrasound of the liver is also needed.

My suggestion would be to see another doctor and get the following tests done -
Liver function tests
Ultrasound of the abdomen
Complete Blood picture

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
