What Does CT Scan Report Showing Thickened Bladder Suggest?
I had a CT scan which showed Mild left greater than right medial cortical thinning. Also showed that I have a moderately thickened bladder. Also showed that the right kidney is smaller than the left. I have been having right flank pain and lower back pain. I have been referred to a Nephrologist. What does all of this mean?
Hello and welcome to HCM, The right flank pain, lower back pain, small right kidney as compared to left one suggests a chronic kidney disease affecting the right kidney. The chronic kidney disease could be chronic pyelonephritis, chronic glomerulonephritis, or end stage kidney disease. Thickened bladder could be due to separate pathology. You need to consult your nephrologist for cause of small right kidney and thickened bladder wall. Renal function tests need to be done to know the functional status of the kidney. Imaging techniques like DMSA scan may be required. A biopsy of the small kidney can also be performed to look the pathological changes in the kidney. A cystoscopy may be required to look for the changes in the bladder mucosa/ bladder wall.
