What Does ECG Report Showing Mitral Valve Regurgitation Indicate?

My recent echocardiogram showed severe mitral valve regurgitation. I have a stress test next Tuesday. Historically I have been able a runner but now cannot scoop ice cream without losing my breath. I m wondering what to expect from a results aspect from the stress test. My cardiologist has already mentioned the possibility of valve replacement surgery so I m a bit nervous.

Hi
Thanks for your question.

The mitral valve sits between the left atrium and the left ventricle and prevents backflow of blood when it is closed.

However, in your case, the valve is not working well and effectively the heart is not being able to pump out blood to the rest of the body.

Under such circumstances, please be prepared about the fact that you won't be performing too well on the stress test.

Since the regurgitation is severe, it becomes pertinent to replace the valve for you to be able to perform normal day to day activities.

Once the valve is replaced, you will be able to live a normal life with routine medication and precautions.

Hope this helps! Please do let me know if you have any more questions!
