Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic
No doubt, HPV is an
STD and the decision whether to disclose it or not to your husband, rest solely on you.
Since you never tested abnormal with a Pap swear prior to this, it is a possibility that you got it as a new infection from your second marriage. The significant thing is that your test came as HPV type 16 +
If he is not the source of infection for you, it is very likely that he may have already got it from you, if you are actively engaged in unprotected sex with him. He might develop visible warts anytime soon if he has got the infection. There is a chance that he may remain clinically silent for the time being till he develops visible warts.
High risk HPV types (types 16 and 18) are associated with a risk of cervical intraepithelial
dysplasia (CIN) and
cervical cancer.
These high risk HPV types are associated with penile, vulvar and
anal cancer in both sexes.
A woman with high risk
HPV infection needs regular monitoring with
Pap smear and
colposcopy to detect any cancerous changes at an early stage. Unfortunately there are no test which would detect whether a male is infected with HPV unless he develops a visible wart, which proves that he is infected.
